About the bags:

Sausburg bags are stylish, yet fun with a level of sophistication. Each bag is individually handmade with utmost care out of a wide array of materials such as leather, vinyl, fabrics and true vintage materials.
Each bag is signed and is given a name that reflects the feel and character of the handbag. The name and autograph can be found on a custom label inside each bag.
The high level of detail and craftsmanship make each handbag a perfect combination of a fashion statement and art piece.

"Fun-ctionality":

Peggy believes that fun has to be functional. All bags have zipper closure of the main compartment, an inner zipper pocket and a dual compartment dividing side pocket. Other features, such as outer front and or side pockets vary by model.
All bags (unless noted otherwise) have adjustable straps and a hard bottom and purse feet.

About the designer:

Peggy Airey-Van Diem grew up in a creative family in the Netherlands. Dad a furniture maker and mom a clothing designer, arts and crafts was basically spoon fed. At an early age Peggy learned to use the sewing machine and made her first bag in grade school. After high school, she studied at the Academy of Industrial Design in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. With her main interests in furniture design and accessory design, she followed in her moms footsteps and worked as an assistant costume designer. After moving to California, Peggy's design interest shifted and started working as a graphic designer, occasionally designing jewelry and handbags on the side. To compliment her mom's clothing collection in the Netherlands, she designed a few handbags just for fun. They were an instant success and Peggy has since then shifted from graphic design to designing and making handbags full time.

Inspiration:
Inspiration for design comes from many objects found in daily life; anything from milk cartons, to thrift store furniture, postcards, vintage ads to classic cars and historic architecture. The materials gathered in various places form their own source of inspiration: color, texture, age.

About the Sausburg name:
The name Sausburg is a combination of two different cities on two continents: Sausalito, California where Peggy currently lives and works and Tilburg, the Netherlands her birthplace and source of many materials that are collected during family visits.
